Dave Stringer’s Magic & Logic tour, with Indian American singer and multi-instrumentalist Sheela Bringi, and will be a launch party for both Dave’s soulful, energetic and critically acclaimed new album, Ojas, and Sheela’s powerful debut album Incantations.
Dave’s contagious performances are infused with longing, ecstasy and wonder. His voice has tremendous range, and is tinged with jazz, country and blues. In the Magic & Logic tour he conjures a lively and provocative evening that mixes spirit and science with an irreverent sense of humor.
The show will open with Sheela and selections from Incantations. Her silken harp and haunting bansuri flute playing, combined with her delicate and entrancing voice, are exquisite. Her sound is otherworldly, simultaneously exotically Indian and deeply familiar.
The concert continues with Dave and his drummer, Miles, joining Sheela on stage adding guitar, tabla and cajon to the mix. The trio will lead a series of call and response kirtan chants, inviting the audience to sing the Sanskrit mantras with them. The mantras are projected on stage for audience members to follow.
Between the kirtans, Dave and Sheela perform a number of bhajans (spiritual poems in Hindi, Urdu, and Marathi, set to music) with spoken English translations and commentary.
Together, in their first ever collaboration tour, Dave and Sheela will bring together tradition and innovation in an unforgettable fusion of the vocal and songwriting traditions of America and India.
