Girish is an eclectic artist with roots in jazz, world, and sacred music. His musical talents find expression in a wide array of instruments – including tablas, world percussion, guitar, harmonium, and voice. He studied with legendary tabla master Swapan Chaudhuri at the Ali Akbar School of Music in Marin County, California. He also studied the art of Indian drumming in New York at the Siddha Yoga Ashram.
Before embarking on his career as a solo artist, he served as an accompaniest to many prominent artists in the yoga music genre, including Krishna Das, Wah!, Dave Stringer, Donna DeLory, Thomas Barquee, Snatam Kaur, Shanti Shanti, Steve Ross, Swaha, and Rasa. https://girishmusic.org/
Jaya Lakshmi began leading kirtan and writing devotional songs on the guitar, harmonium and piano in the early 1990′s shortly after receiving harinam initiation from Srila Govinda Maharaj, a spiritual teacher of bhakti (devotion) from West Bengal, India. As a singer/songwriter she is known for her authentic and deep devotional spirit as well as playing an important part in establishing kirtan and mantra music in the west. Her angelic voice and loving presence opens the heart in a way that brings the listener into a state of harmony and bliss.
She was a founding member of the groundbreaking tribal-trance band Lost at Last and toured with them for years before going on to record her kirtan and mantra music as a solo artist on Sequoia Records. Later she collaborated with Ananda Das on albums for Sounds True and Spirit Voyage. She has also been active in combining Kirtan and mantra with Electronic Dance Music, a synthesis she calls Kirtronica. https://jayalakshmimusic.com/home
