L2: Learn to SHARE Kirtan with others (Kundalini)

This six week LEVEL 2 class is perfect for those with a home chant practice who long to SHARE Kirtan with others!
 
Within a safe space, Mike Cohen and Dawnia Dresser offer a fun program that guides and supports EXPERIENCED Kirtan Leaders as they deepen their chant practice and step into SHARING sacred chant with others in their community.

This class will focus on chants from the KUNDALINI YOGA tradition, including songs by Snatam Kaur, Nirinjin Kaur, Jai Jagadeesh and more!

Weekly classes (90 minutes long) create a perfect structure for chant leaders to deepen harmonium skills, expand their repertoire and develop the ability to play/sing with strong musicians while leading others in a potent chant experience. Along the way you will receive vocal instruction from Dawnia Dresser. In the sixth class you will play with a professional Kirtan drummer.
 
You will learn to:
* Play a variety of voicings with harmonium chords while chanting and singing simple invocations
* Expand their repetoire with 10 chants and invocations (from your favorite Kundalini chant artists!) that you can share with others
* Strengthen your singing and experience playing with a professional Kirtan drummer.
* Deepen your conceputal understanding around music and Kirtan
* Hold the 3 key conversations for sharing Kirtan publicly with confidence
* Cultivate an energetic understanding of mantras and deities
* Have lots of fun learning to share an amazing spiritual practice!
 
Leading Kirtan is an act of service that can be quite complex, or as simple as leading a group in a Om a cappella, or with harmonium. This class will help you develop the confidence and skill to gift your community with the blessing of sacred chant.

Wednesday's from 7:30-9pm on April 15, 22, 29 and May 6, 13, 20.

Held at Jeanie Manchester's Anjaneya Yoga Shala - 1480 Violet Ave, Boulder, Colorado 80304. Please park out front and to the West of her house.

CLASS SIZE
Class size will be limited to 12 participants to create a high-touch learning environment. This program runs 6 weeks with a total of 9 hours of instruction in how to lead Kirtan.

ABOUT MIKE COHEN
Mike Cohen, MA is founder of Kirtan Leader Institute. Since 2010 he has trained and apprenticed hundreds of aspiring and emerging Kirtan Leaders across the globe from total beginners to several he has guided to create/release Kirtan albums, play at festivals and tour nationally.
 
A life-long musician with 16 years experience developing leaders, Mike created a proven methodology for training and apprenticing Kirtan Leaders based around five relevant domains for leading Kirtan: Musicianship, Leadership, Community Building, Entrepreneurship and Spirituality. Work within these 5 domains helps Kirtan Leaders build skill and confidence in serving others through the ancient/modern practice of sacred chant.
 
Mike has released three critically acclaimed albums, and in 2018-19 released six singles created with Grammy Award nominated producer Ben Leinbach (Jai Uttal, Krishna Das, Deva Premal). For over a decade, Mike has toured North America, offering accessible and potent Kirtan events in yoga studios, healing centers and at yoga/chant festivals. ABOUT DAWNIA DRESSER
Boulder, CO based Dawnia Dresser is an Anusara inspired yoga teacher and lifelong vocalist/musician. During her 19 years in Los Angeles, CA Dawnia co-created three albums of original folk-rock music and contributed extensively on albums and movies as a vocalist and voiceover artist. Dawnia is currently working with renowned Kirtan producer Ben Leinbach (Jai Uttal, Deva Premal) to create an EP of soul-infused mantra music. A graduate of Colorado State University with a degree in music and vocal performance, Dawnia serves as faculty in the Boulder, CO based Kirtan Leader Institute. Her warm heart, clear and caring teaching style and beautiful voice have led her to become a beloved member of the Kirtan community in CO and beyond.
