The Class
Spine Like Earth and Sky is a blend of fluid movements drawn from yoga, modern dance, and qi gong that simultaneously ground and extend the spine. Think: yoga wedded to dance, with smoother transitions.
Your spine can tell you whole stories about how you carry and feel about yourself, and what you think of your life. The physical practices you’ll learn in this class will allow you to begin unraveling knots that keep you stuck, but also keep you close to the grounding earth. Stretch your limits in triangle pose, but also soften in gentle spinal sways as we knock on heaven’s doors. We will end in savasana or seated meditation.
This is a low to moderate intensity practice whose medicine mainly comes from its power to create energetic shifts, but also increases strength and flexibility in the spine. There are foundational motions, but there will also be changes week to week. There are a variety of modification options for any injuries or sore areas. Come and enjoy a guided, contemplative movement class for bodies at any age that need rest, but want to stay in motion. Learn to:
- Practice the basics of modern dance, yoga and qi gong
- Improve the strength and flexibility of your spine
- Begin unraveling emotional and mental knots in mind and body
- Calm your nervous system and tame any tendency toward anxiety
- Learn what it means to meditate in motion
