FEATURED YOGA TEACHERS
Felicia M. Tomasko - LA Yoga Magazine Editor-in-Chief
Felicia Marie Tomasko RN, E-RYT 500, inspires people to follow the path to personal freedom and vibrant health through the practice of Yoga and Ayurveda. She teaches a heartfelt exploration of shakti, sacred energy, through asana, pranayama, concentration and relaxation and maintains a private practice in the healing tradition of Ayurveda, a system of holistic and integrative medicine native to India. Ayurveda shares the same philosophy and ways of approaching the body, mind and spirit as Yoga and emphasizes our relationship to our body, breath, spirit and to nature within and around us. The dual systems of Yoga and Ayurveda, while seemingly ancient and esoteric, hold vital lessons for us to learn how to live with intent and address the needs of living in the modern world. Felicia believes in humorously making these concepts relevant to modern, everyday life.
Felicia integrates more than twenty years of study of the ancient approaches of Yoga and Ayurveda with her training and licensure as a registered nurse. She is the Editor in Chief of LA YOGA Ayurveda and Health magazine and serves on the board of directors of the California Association of Ayurvedic Medicine and the National Ayurvedic Medical Association, on the advisory board of the Holistic Option and the Leadership Council of the Green Yoga Association. She is a featured voice on Intent.com and writes regularly on health and well-being for a number of books, newspapers, magazines and websites. In addition to Yoga and Ayurveda, Felicia has worked in cognitive neuropsychology and plant biochemistry research and has degrees in nursing and environmental biology.
Krista Cahill
Krista fell in love with the practice of yoga in 1999 when she took her first Ashtanga class. Since that day she has devoted her time and energy into exploring the numerous dimensions, both as a teacher and student. “I look forward each day to the possibility that my practice both on and off the mat can promote a greater awareness in our immediate need for global peace and unification. ALL is ONE.”An enthusiastic student, Krista has become a dedicated pupil of Maty Ezraty for nearly 10 years. Committed to furthering knowledge of how to strike a balance between stability and fluidity, Krista is constantly seeking methods of instruction which refine students understanding of the body-mind connection.
Krista teaches retreats around the world and regular classes at Yoga Works in Santa Monica, CA & Yoga Salt in Culver City, CA. Expect a vigorous Vinyasa flow class that challenges the minds focus and attention; Krista believes that our obstacles, mind or body, are our greatest blessings. Krista and her husband Brock live their yoga together in Venice Beach, CA. Read more about Krista on her website.
Brock Cahill
Brock has spent the majority of his life as a professional musician. He began studying the violin at a very early age. His earliest years were steeped in technique and ear development. Several years later, when Brock was about 10, he told his mother that playing the violin wasn't "cool" anymore. She told him that as long as he continued to play the violin, he could play anything else he wanted (awesome!). His father told him to "learn the rules, so he could learn how to break them properly". Of course, first thing he did was ask for an electric guitar and some Led Zeppelin records. He hasn't stopped rockin' ever since. He did, however, continue to practice his violin, and after years and decades of playing in symphony orchestras, he cherishes it as the greatest gift that his mother ever could have given him.
His path into yoga is very similar. He began his training at Yogaworks, in Santa Monica, where the style is heavily based in the classical Ashtanga and Iyengar methods. He was lucky enough to have been mentored by some of the finest teachers on the planet including; Annie Carpenter, Chuck Miller & Maty Ezraty, Vinnie Marino, and Seane Corn. These fine people taught Brock the roots of yoga, how the roots of the asanas directly correspond to gravity, and how the body interacts with earth. It was from here that he developed the strength and the confidence to take flight. Brock continually tells his students, "Gravity is strong. you are stronger." Practice with him for awhile and you most certainly will be. As soon as YOU believe it... anything is possible. Gravity is, of course, a law: a rule. After we have learned the rule, we can break it, we can bend it, we can ride on it.
Anthony Tomasi
Anthony Tomasi (EYRT200), a popular north shore vinyasa flow instructor, teaches over 15 classes in and around the Boston area in any given week. If you haven't crossed paths with him in a local studio, then chances are you have seen his smiling face in store at lululemon at Lynnfield's Market Street where he serves as an Ambassador. A Boston native and former hockey player, Anthony (or "Ace" as he is known to friends) trained at The Yoga Loft under Jen Ryan. As of late, his passions have broadened to include acroyoga. These adventures find him leading a variety of workshops and specialty classes throughout New England with his partner April Lyn Graffeo.
