Event Description

This comprehensive four (4) week course meets Tuesday evenings 7:00-9:00pm in Seattle (Belltown). The course curriculum is based on the highly acclaimed TVS methodology developed by Robert Lunte. The TVS methodology teaches singers how to train so they can sing with more strength and coordination.

Week 1: Respiration

Respiration is the primary source of energy for singing. It is the "fuel" that drives a complex chain reaction that results in stability and amplification of the sound energy of singing.

In this week's class, you will learn why phonation is essential to great singing and several key strength building workouts you can do that will immediately improve your respiration and singing.

  • How respiration for singing is different then "rested", normal breathing.

  • The role of respiration in amplifying the voice.

  • 6 workouts that strengthen the respiratory muscles for singing.

  • Practicing the respiratory muscle workouts.

  • Vocal workouts that coordinate respiration with the singing voice.

  • Practicing the motor skills workouts.

Week 2 Phonation

Phonation is defined as, "the process by which the vocal folds produce certain sounds through quasi-periodic vibration". When it comes to singing, phonation is as unique and exotic as the art form it helps produce.

In this week's class you will make a kinesthetic connection with your phonation mechanism ( vocal folds ) and experience the feeling of vibrant vocal sounds unlike anything you've felt before. We will also cover three of the most critical vocal warm up workouts that not only prepare you for singing better than any other warmup, but will set you on a foundation toward new levels of vocal health and wellness.

  • The relationship between respiration and phonation.

  • The relationship between phonation and resonation.

  • Learning the TVS vocal warmup routine.

  • Practicing the routine.

  • Song Coaching.

Week 3: Resonation

Resonation refers to the sound energy that is emitted into the upper vocal tract when singing and through the management of resonance, the singer delivers the aesthetic beauty that listeners are expecting to hear.

In the 3rd week class, you will learn the critical relationship between resonance, singing vowels and singing on pitch ( frequency ). Through the TVS techniques shown to you, you will feel new resonance sensations, modify singing vowels and enjoy how the singing voice responds with agility when the acoustics are tuned properly.

  • Working with techniques that help you to feel resonance in the "mask".

  • Using singing vowels to bridge the vocal break and extend your vocal range.

  • Putting it all together, learn how to train with onsets & sirens.

  • Song coaching.

Week 4: Visualization

The fourth and final week of the training class covers the importance of mental imagery for singing great. A large amount of resistance to singing better comes from different manifestations of fear. In this final class we will learn how to overcome the fears that handicap great singing and learn techniques used to silence the fears to allow the voice to be free and expressive.

  • Singing onsets & sirens through the vocal break and using the skills learned in the previous four weeks to tackle your fears about the vocal break and high notes.

  • Using the sense of projection and targeting with your eyes to build courage to sing.

  • Singing a prepared song.

  • Song coaching.
